Assynt Old Parish Church

The church, at Inchnadamph, dates back to 1743 and was the parish church till 1898. It was much renovated in 1900 and restored in 2005. The graveyard contains MacLeods of Assynt and MacKenzies of Ledbeg.

  1. Welcome, Colin (and Gerald et al).

I gather the church at Inchnadamph is no longer operating as a church. Is the graveyard still accepting interments?

So, of course, I google-mapped it to see exactly where you have taken me. Way up the top of bloody-nowhere!! Brrr ... must get cold up there at times. Times like recently.

So ... tell me something about a MacLeod of Assynt and a MacKenzie of Ledbeg. Did they intermarry? Did the twain ever meet?

And, of course, your next task, should you deign to accept it, is to show us this graveyard covered in snow.

Wonderful contribution to Taphophile Tragics, chaps. And I thank you for it.

  3. Wow! What a stunningly beautiful church. So nice thatit has been restored and not left to go to ruin as so many churches are these days.

  6. The nearest small stone in the left foreground is of Neil MacPherson 1800-1871 a shepherd, who lived with his wife Anne (Fraser) at Poll Tigh a' Charraigein (NC159284)
