The rock all around Lochinver is Lewisian Gneiss, which gives rise to the rough landscape of outcrops with boggy hollows and numerous lochans.

Trawlers land their catch at Lochinver and the prudent motorist keeps an eye open for fast-moving refrigerated lorries speeding southwards on the A837.

The sharp peak is Sgurr an Fhidleir. A deer fence encloses a substantial area here which has been fairly recently planted with mixed types of trees.
